Zombie Stays True To ‘Miami’ While Making His Mark
1 min readRocker-turned-director Rob Zombie put his own unique spin on the upcoming CSI: Miami episode “LA” while remaining faithful to the show’s roots. (Very minor spoilers after the jump.)
Zombie signed on for Miami after a friend convinced him to give it a shot. “It is a bit of an odd pairing,” Zombie admitted to the Star-Telegram. “Five years ago, Marco Black, who was the first assistant director on House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, went to work on CSI as a first [assistant director]. Now he’s one of the producers. Every year he would call and say, ‘You’ve got to direct an episode.’ I could never fit their schedule into my schedule until this year.”
When he found the time to do an episode of Miami, Zombie wanted to make sure it didn’t go too far outside of the box. “I wanted to bring my vibe to the show, but I wanted to keep it true to CSI because obviously it has a huge fan base and a formula that people love,” he explained. “So there were little things where I deferred to someone on the show. Like, someone would ask: ‘OK, this person was stabbed. How much blood should we use?’ I would go: ‘Oh, I don’t know. As much as you can for TV, I guess.’ I was actually sort of amazed at some of the things I could get away with.”
