Alexander’s New Series ‘Treme’ To Premiere In April
2 min readCSI Files previously reported that former CSI: Miami actress Khandi Alexander (Dr Alexx Woods) would star in an upcoming HBO series called Treme, which takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. The show will debut in April with an 80-minute premiere episode. (Embedded video after the jump.)
In the series, Alexander will play LaDonna Batiste-Williams, the ex-wife of trombonist Antoine Batiste (Wendell Pierce) and the owner of a bar. LaDonna travels between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, where her children and her new husband live. “New Orleans is a city which lives in the imagination of the whole world,” said writer and co-executive producer Eric Overmyer. “We wanted to capture something authentic about it, as its people struggle with the after effects of the greatest calamity to befall an American city in the history of this country.”
“In some fundamental ways, Treme is centered on the ordinary lives of ordinary people,” added Overmyer’s fellow writer and executive producer David Simon. “It is political only in the sense that ordinary people find themselves dealing with politics in their own lives. That said, New Orleanians – those who have been able to return, especially – are passionate about their city.” Overmyer continued, “As much as possible, we’re trying to show fealty to the post-Katrina history. New Orleanians have had their lives transformed by the storm and its aftermath, and we want to be careful in our presentation of that.”
