Watch A Clip From Tonight’s ‘Criminal Minds’ Premiere
5 min readThe eleventh season of Criminal Minds gets underway tonight at 9:00pm ET/PT. You can find a sneak peek from “The Job” below, along with a behind-the-scenes video, quotes, tweets and photos!
Here’s the clip, which features Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and Dr Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler). (You can also find it on CBS.com, CBS Press Express and SpoilerTV.)
TV Fanatic has a short clip that goes before the above sneak peek, which you can watch here.
CBS also shared this behind-the-scenes video, called “A Day in the Life”, featuring Tyler showing how she balances being on Criminal Minds with her gig as one of the hosts of The Talk. Gibson and Executive Producer Erica Messer also appear in the video. (It can also be found on CBS.com, CBS Press Express and SpoilerTV.)
Shemar Moore (Derek Morgan) was on The Talk with Tyler today, and you can watch the full episode here—skip to 18:50 for a clip featuring Hotch, Dr Lewis and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness); and jump to 30:30 for Moore’s interview and another scene, featuring Morgan and Garcia. Here are two clips, including one with Moore and Tyler discussing her addition to the show:
According to TV Guide, AJ Cook (JJ Jareau) will return from maternity leave in episode seven, but she will have a brief cameo in tonight’s season premiere. Here’s a tweet from TV Guide, with the picture featured in the article:

Messer did an interview with the Hollywood Reporter about season 11, and here’s an excerpt:
We left off last season with the reveal that JJ (AJ Cook) is pregnant. How much is that going to play into the beginning of Season 11?
We are going to be able to see her in the first episode with her little baby and we’re going to have her be on maternity leave for the first six episodes of the season. We wanted to play the reality of this is what happens when people have babies in the workplace. They don’t come back the next day. We’re playing that reality and we’ll even get to see AJ’s actual baby, which is something she did the first time when she had her first son. It’s truly a family affair.
Tyler and Messer spoke to TV Guide about Tyler’s addition to the cast. Dr Tara Lewis is a forensic psychologist who doesn’t have any field experience, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t prepared. Here’s a quote from Tyler:
This is something she definitely wants to do as the next step in her career. She’s a very skilled analyst and has this incredible depth of knowledge of how the mind of a sociopath operates. She does have field training because … anybody who works for the FBI has field training, but she has been able to put it to use yet.
“Aisha is such a smart person that playing a really smart character (psychologist Dr. Tara Lewis) is obviously second nature to her,” Messer told TV Line. Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr Spencer Reid) added, “Comedians make the best dramatic actors, and that’s true for Aisha especially.”
Finally, check out these tweets, photos and a video relating to the premiere:
