The ‘CSI’ Cast Discusses ‘The CSI: Effect’, Plus Interviews, Tweets & Photos

The series finale of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, “Immortality”, will air this Sunday at 9:00pm ET/PT. CBS posted a video called “The CSI: Effect”, which you can find below, featuring series creator (and finale writer) Anthony Zuiker, William Petersen (Gil Grissom), Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle), Paul Guilfoyle (Jim Brass), Robert David Hall (Dr Al Robbins), David Berman (David Phillips), Jon Wellner (Henry Andrews), Elisabeth Harnois (Morgan Brody), Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders), Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) and Ted Danson (DB Russell). In it, they discuss the past 15 years of CSI, as well as what fans can expect from “Immortality” (including glimpses of the finale):

The network also shared this video from the red carpet at PaleyFest, called “CSI Might Have Never Aired Without These People”. It features Zuiker, Hall, Petersen and Berman discussing some of the unsung heroes of CSI:

Helgenberger was on The Talk today to promote the finale. You can watch the full episode here (starts at approximately 29:00), or check out a clip below:

Zuiker and the CSI cast also spoke to USA Today about the show coming to an end. “It takes many twists and turns, but you’ll see a lot of old-school CSI in the storytelling, getting back to basic forensics,” Zuiker said. Fox added, “Anthony wrote a suspenseful, exhilarating, crazy, warped story, which is one of his specialties.”

The cast also did an interview with the Associated Press, and here’s a quote from Danson:

The show had a new way of coming at crime and murder and mayhem. Taking a scientific point of view on a crime show was new back then, and allowed viewers into the darker side of life in a way that wasn’t just cops-and-robbers.

NY Daily News has another cast interview. “Forensics has evolved just over the time we’ve been doing the show,” Fox said. “Every season we’d get a couple of new gadgets and gizmos. I think one reason we lasted as long as we did was that forensic evaluation felt realistic.”

Petersen spoke to the New York Post about coming back for the finale. “We wanted to say goodbye to the fans. To thank them,” he said. Here’s another excerpt:

I think the actors didn’t want to see the show end, even though Marg had left and Paul [Guilfoyle, who played Capt. Jim Brass] had left. In each scene we got to say goodbye to each other’s characters. And the actors could say goodbye to each other.

Helgenberger answered a few questions for YourTVLink, including this one:

Q: What does it mean to you to return for the final episode of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”?

A: Being involved in that show for close to 12 seasons was, certainly, the highlight of my career … and it had such a huge impact on my life. Being a part of a show that becomes a cultural phenomenon, that doesn’t happen very often. The phrase “the CSI effect” was coined because of the show, and just the amount of kids who were inspired to become criminologists – that’s certainly an impact I wouldn’t have anticipated when I began the show.
