At the end of the day, it’s not so much about reinventing or doing anything that different. NCIS is still NCIS. All of the dynamics are there. … The vibe of the show is the same, the chemistry is the same, the tone is the same. It’s just that we’ve got this new character and she brings something new to the party.

Entertainment Weekly spoke with Glasberg about Wickersham’s addition to the cast. Check out this excerpt:

Really what happened was Emily showed up and we gave her this script and this character and she really brought it to life. She brought eccentricity and nuance and quirk and heart to a character that, until then, we had only been looking at on paper. Once we started to see and feel the chemistry with people on screen — and off, as well — we realized that we had something really special.

Here’s an exclusive from TV Guide that was posted last week, in which Glasberg revealed that Bishop is happily married. “We will eventually meet her husband, who is an attorney with the NSA,” he explained. “This is a very different relationship from anything we’ve had. There’s something interesting in this world when you have a spouse you can’t tell everything to, and taking on the added responsibilities of this new job could come with consequences.”

TV Line also posted last week about Wickersham’s addition to the cast. According to Glasberg, “[Bishop] possesses an interesting mind, an intellectual, smart way to approach doing what this team does — not with kicks and punches and knocking down doors but by really thinking. She’s very much a thinker.”
