Check Out Spoilers For ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘NCIS:LA’ & ‘NCIS’
5 min readHere’s a collection of news for Criminal Minds, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS, which have been shared over the past few days. Items include premiere details, photos, and several videos. (Spoilers after the jump!)
Criminal Minds (“The Inspiration” airs Wednesday, September 25 at 9:00pm ET/PT):
When season eight came to an end, the team was able to hunt down the Replicator who taunted the BAU all season. Unfortunately, the killer got to unit chief Erin Strauss (Jayne Atkinson) first, and season 9 begins with Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) temporarily taking over her duties. Esai Morales will debut in episode three as Matt Cruz, the new unit chief who has ties to JJ Jareau (AJ Cook). “People will wonder, ‘Did they have an affair? What’s going on?'” Executive Producer Erica Messer told TVLine. “And all of that will pay off in our 200th episode, when we deal with the time JJ was away [during Season 6].”
Messer also revealed that season nine will include an origin story for Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), which takes viewers back to her first meeting with Hotchner in 2004. The episode pits Garcia “up against her old hacker world” and offers a glimpse at “the guy who owned her heart long before we met her.”

NCIS: LA (“Ascension” airs Tuesday, September 24 at 9:00pm ET/PT):
The fourth season ended with two team members being tortured, and as season five gets underway with “Ascension”, viewers will find out how Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) make it out alive. The premiere picks up right where “Descent” left off, and Executive Producer Shane Brennan told TV Line that things get “pretty brutal” for both men before it’s all over. He added that the consequences of their ordeal will “ripple very deeply into the season—not just for them, but for their relationships with others.” This includes the relationship between Deeks and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah), which Brennan teased will go “to a new level, to a place that a lot of these shows don’t go.”
Brennan revealed to XFinity TV that, although the premiere gets started right where season four stopped, the episode ends “some time later.” He added, “It is not a few days later. It is weeks and weeks and weeks later.” There are longterm repercussions for Sam and Deeks from their torture, and this includes seeing psychologist Nate Getz (Peter Cambor). Another result of this shared experience is that Sam will change how he sees Deeks. “There has always been a certain amount of tension between Deeks and Sam,” Brennan said. “Sam has often questioned Deeks’ suitability for NCIS. Certainly, as a result of what they go through together, Sam will definitely reassess his opinion of Deeks.”
NCIS: LA will reach the 100 episode milestone this season, and “Reznikov, N” will focus on G Callen (Chris O’Donnell). As Brennan told XFinity TV, “Anyone who has followed the Callen story, in his search for his identity to find out who he really is—to fill in the puzzle, he has that tea tin that sits on his mantelpiece and has little jigsaw puzzle pieces of his life in there—he gets to put another very, very significant piece of the jigsaw puzzle into that tea tin.”

NCIS (“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” airs Tuesday, September 24 at 8:00pm ET/PT):
At the end of season ten, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) and Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) resigned from NCIS, and Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) joined a top-secret operation. The final moments of the finale flashed forward four months, and season eleven will pick up where “Damned If You Do” left off. The first two episodes leading to de Pablo’s exit will fill in the blanks about what happened during that four month period, and Gibbs’ mission will be explained. “If he takes this mission, the slate for NCIS will be wiped clean,” Executive Producer Gary Glasberg told TVLine.
Glasberg promised some “really lovely fantastic moments” between Tony and Ziva in her last two episodes, which he hopes provide closure for the viewers. “I am going to tell people to watch,” he told XFinity TV. “They should watch and see where we go with it and, hopefully, they will be satisfied with what they get.”
The show will bring in a rotation of characters before settling on one person to take Ziva’s place. “We want to remind people that after going through this very difficult period at the beginning of the season, there is still fun and lightness and some smiles to be had with the dynamic of this group,” Glasberg explained. “Hopefully, when people least expect it, someone will walk through the door and surprise us.”
