Jamie-Lynn Sigler Visits ‘CSI:Cyber’, Plus News, Tweets & Photos
9 min readPeople announced yesterday that Jamie-Lynn Sigler will appear in a March episode of CSI: Cyber. She’ll play Sasha, “an attractive, smart and well-dressed director of content monitoring for a respected social media company.” This means the character is in charge of hiring employees who will monitor the social media platform for illegal content.
Charley Koontz (Daniel Krumitz) participated in a Q&A session for the Television Critics Association earlier this month. He told Assignment X that season two of Cyber is “a lot more about the characters and a lot more about having a job that takes eighteen hours to crack one code makes it somewhat difficult to have a family life and/or relationships that are interpersonal i any kind of way.” He also had this to say about the nature of cybercrimes:
One thing that’s also really interesting about cybercrimes is that, a lot of times in procedurals before, it was revenge or a cheating wife or a murderer, or really visceral one to one connections in why these crimes happen and crimes of passion, things like that. One of the things that’s so horrifying about all of this [cybercrime] is that ninety percent of the time, it’s totally random. It has nothing to do with you. There’s nothing you can do. It’s somebody who wants to park outside your house and hack onto your wi-fi and steal all your stuff and really put you in a precarious situation. That’s what I found to be the most crazy about all these scripts, is that you have to solve a crime where two people aren’t linked. There’s no hilted lover and there’s no bully at school. It can be different schools in cyber-bullying. You don’t always have to know the person, which really just makes me anxious.
Shad Moss (Brody Nelson) also spoke to Assignment X about CSI: Cyber, including this question and answer:
AX: You’ve done a lot of acting gigs before. Apart from being a series regular, which means there’s more of it, is there something different about CSI: CYBER?
MOSS: I tell people all the time, when you do this caliber of acting, this is different. I never experienced this type of caliber of acting. The stuff that I’ve done [has mostly been] fun, light-hearted stuff, comedy, whereas you come into this, this is like Harvard. The tech talk is crazy, our monologues are crazy, this is unlike everything you’ve ever seen before. It’s tough. And I think once you do stuff like this, the sky is the limit. You can pretty much do anything. I used to be a little nervous to go in audition rooms. Now, it’s like I feel invincible. If you can do this, you can do anything [laughs].
Producer and real life cyberpsychologist Mary Aiken did an interview with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and here’s a quote about Cyber:
Your work has inspired a CSI spin-off show. What’s your involvement?
I’m a producer on the show, so I’m very involved in the process. Everything from coming up with ideas and brainstorming to the cyber psychological aspects of the scripts and making sure that everything is as authentic as possible. Following every episode, CBS broadcasts a two- or three-minute piece called The Takeaway with Mary Aiken where I explain underlying themes, such as cyber security or safety educational messages in an episode — things that are going to help mums or young kids be more aware in cyberspace. I think CBS has done really a great job with the show. They’re very respectful of the process and very conscientious about how everything is portrayed.

It really bothers me how often I'm described as "neckbeard" or "fat hacker" in pieces abt #CSICyber in newspapers, blogs, tech journals, etc
— Charley Koontz (@charley_koontz) January 12, 2016
It's hard to see how my neckbeard contributes to the piece's praise or criticism of the show other than to be shitty.
— Charley Koontz (@charley_koontz) January 12, 2016
Especially from tech communities that seem to value a person's intellect, creativity & contribution toward innovation over looks.
— Charley Koontz (@charley_koontz) January 12, 2016
I dunno. It just feels shitty. Thought I'd share that.
