Take A Look At Tonight’s ‘Criminal Minds’ & ‘CSI:Cyber’

5 min read

Criminal Minds and CSI: Cyber have new episodes on the schedule tonight. You can find sneak peeks, quotes, tweets and photos after the jump!

Here is the first clip from the Criminal Minds episode “A Place at the Table”, featuring Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and guest star Ed Asner as his father-in-law, Roy Brooks. (You can also find it on CBS.com, CBS Press Express and SpoilerTV.)

Sneak peek number two features Dr Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness). (It’s also available on CBS.com and CBS Press Express.)

TV Guide shared this exclusive clip from the episode, featuring Hotch and Roy:

Here’s a question and answer from TV Line about “A Place at the Table”:

Would love some Criminal Minds scoop. I’ll take anything you’re willing to throw my way. –Michelle

I know, it feels like Ed Asner is everywhere these days, but his role on Criminal Minds this Wednesday is a far cry from his recent Good Wife visit. “He plays Hotch’s father-in-law, Roy, who’s been diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s, and he doesn’t like Hotch at all. In fact, I think he’s the only person in the history of Criminal Minds who’s told Hotch to shut up,” says showrunner Erica Messer. “Bruce Zimmerman wrote it and Laura Belsey directed, and it’s so real in that way of ‘family drama to turned up to 11,’ because Roy blames Hotch for Haley being dead – ‘I trusted you to keep her safe and she died under your care.’ It’s just… holy cow. But then on top of that there’s this emotional vulnerability of a strong man who’s going to have to depend on others to survive, and the last thing he wants to do is ask Hotch for any help.”

In addition to the clip above, TV Guide had several quotes from Messer relating to the episode. Here’s an excerpt about Asner:

He’s amazing and the fact that he’s Haley’s dad just brings so much amazing drama to that part. It’s really just heartbreaking. We did an unsub with Alzheimer’s, but not a family member with it. Of course it’s a very complicated relationship. Thomas was very involved in that story line. Any time we revisit a Haley situation, it pulls on the heartstrings.

TV Guide also shared a behind-the-scenes look at Asner’s appearance on Minds. Check out this quote, in which Asner explains that longtime friend Joe Mantegna (David Rossi) may have played a role in getting him a spot on the show:

I’m not a regular TV watcher. When I had some time, I sat on my fat ass and started watching TV and came across Criminal Minds. I like their style. I like the forensic discussions that go on, the probing of the psychology involved. I think Joe heard … that Criminal Minds was one of my favorite shows. He might’ve encouraged my being hired. They treated me like a prince. I tried to give them their money’s worth. They’re a lovely bunch of coconuts.

The Tolucan Times posted an article confirming that Mantegna helped get Asner a guest-starring role on Criminal Minds. “I was thrilled to find out Ed was a fan of our show,” Mantegna said. He added, “I immediately let our producers know so we could find a great role for him to play!”
