‘Miami’ Investigates The Death Of A Casanova In ‘Stiff’

2 min read

The second episode of CSI: Miami’s tenth season finds the team searching for the man—or woman—behind the murder of a successful gigolo. (Major spoilers after the jump!)

According to CSI Files sources, “Stiff” gets started as the team is called to the high-end Hyperion Hotel, where a man named Derek has been found dead in one of the poolside cabanas. The cabanas have glass walls, but the victim is in the most private one, which is located farthest from the pool and prying eyes—or witnesses. Derek’s body is on the floor, blood pooling under his head from his wounds.

It costs $500 a day to rent the poolside cabana, and Derek has been paying $3,500 a week to stay there. He was making his money as a gigolo, and his client list becomes the team’s main suspect list. One of Derek’s repeat customers is Gretchen, a woman in her 40s who feels like the love is gone from her marriage. She started seeing Derek while her husband was away on business, and their relationship became a regular transaction. She knew Derek was a gigolo, and she claims she didn’t care about all of the other women he was with—but she does admit that she fell in love with him.

Despite being hit numerous times with a blunt object, Derek’s official cause of death is asphyxiation. There is a propane leak in the cabana’s fireplace, and it’s easy to see that the valve was damaged on purpose. The leak went unnoticed because the colorless, odorless gas was lacking the necessary additive that would have given it a scent. Without that telltale smell, Derek would have had no idea that he was in danger until it was too late. The head wounds he suffered incapacitated him, but it was the propane that finally killed him. The team needs to figure out who tampered with the fireplace—and if that is the same person who hit Derek over the head.

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from early script drafts and the details of the episodes are liable to change before the episodes are shown.

“Stiff” is expected to air October 2 on CBS.
