Joy Brings Prospero To Life In ‘The Tempest’

1 min read

CSI: New York’s resident coroner Robert Joy (Dr Sid Hammerback) will star in Theatre by the Bay’s production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest in Barrie, Ontario later this month.

Joy will take on the role of Prospero in The Tempest, and his daughter Ruby Joy will play Prospero’s daughter, Miranda. “My daughter is in the beginning stages of her acting career and she was cast in the daughter role,” Joy told Simcoe, explaining how he got involved with the production. “Once they found out I was her father, they contacted me about the Prospero role. We’ve never worked together before, and now we’ll be father and daughter.”

The Tempest will run from June 30 to July 16, which works out well for the Canadian-born CSI: NY actor. The crime drama is currently on summer hiatus, but Joy will be heading back to the set as soon as the play is over. “The show ends on the 16th and on the 20th I’m back at it as Sid,” he explained. “As an actor, time off is a bad thing. It’s called unemployment.”
