Jo Seeks Emotional Support On ‘CSI:NY’ Tonight
2 min readThis week’s episode of CSI: New York, “Identity Crisis”, finds Jo Danville (Sela Ward) dealing with two very different men in her life: her ex-husband Russ Josephson (David James Elliott) and her new coworker Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise). (Minor spoilers after the jump!)
Jo and Russ are divorced, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care about each other. “I think they are still very attracted to one another,” Ward told TV Guide. “I think there’s still a lot of love left there, but it’s just one of those relationships that should have worked on paper but didn’t.”
Jo’s adopted daughter Ellie (Sydney Park) starts looking for her biological mother in “Identity Crisis”. The search brings up conflicted feelings for Jo, and Russ is there for his ex-wife. “He offers to stay and be there with me and offer support,” Ward explained, “and I tell him, ‘I’d love for you to rescue me from this, but this is something I’ve got to do on my own.'”
Despite the fact that Jo wants to take care of the situation with Ellie without help from her ex-husband, she does turn to Mac as a coworker and friend. “[She goes] to Mac for emotional support,” Ward said. “You see Jo—who’s always in control and always has the answers—really not sure and really second-guessing herself. She goes into Mac’s office really as a mess, looking for Mac to help her as a sounding board.”
