Linn: I Never Take One Day For Granted

2 min read

Rex Linn has been playing Detective Frank Tripp since the first season of CSI: Miami, and he’s grateful to be able to do what he loves for a living.

Linn wanted to be an actor from the time he was a child, and he feels “lucky” to be a series regular on the hit crime drama. “I never take one day of it for granted,” the actor told the Star-Telegram. “When I go to work, I thank God every day for it. If I couldn’t make a living as an actor … you know what? I don’t even want to contemplate that. Because I have no clue what else I would want to be doing.”

Tripp is the resident wise-cracking detective on Miami. As the only non-scientist on the team, he gives the other characters a chance to explain the science for the benefit of the audience. However, it’s the smart-aleck comments that make Tripp stand out. “The writers have what they call ‘Trippisms,’ and there is not one episode, ever, where I’m not smarting off about something, which makes it fun,” Linn explained.

The latest episode of Miami, “Hunting Ground”, was written and directed by Linn’s costar Adam Rodriguez (Eric Delko). “I’m really proud of Adam,” he said. “He did a great job with this episode.” Linn added that leading man David Caruso (Horatio Caine) is an “amazing actor” who raises the bar on the set. “Everything he does on screen is by design,” Linn said. “He developed a character that people all over the world love. The redhead has a giant fan base. But he’s also one of the most generous friends a guy could have.”
