7-Day DVR Playback Helps ‘CSI’ & Other CBS Series
1 min readSeveral CBS series posted significant gains during premiere week when live plus seven-day DVR playback was counted for the first week of the 2010-2011 season ending September 26.
Overall, CBS gained 1.54 million viewers over its live plus same day average, which is an increase of 12%. The network also gained half a rating point in the key 18-49 demographic prized by advertisers, which was a 15% increase, and seven tenths of a rating point in the 25-54 demo (a 16% increase). The Hawaii Five-0 reboot and The Mentalist had the highest ever playback ratings. Five-0 gained 3.4 million viewers and 1.1 rating points in the 18-49 demo, and Mentalist added 3.2 million viewers and 1.0 rating points in the key demo. In the 25-54 demographic, Five-0 added 1.5 rating points, bringing it up to 6.8, and Mentalist went up to 5.8 with an additional 1.2 rating points.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation gained 2.47 million viewers with the DVR results added in, bringing the viewership for the premiere up to 17.20 million. CSI: New York’s new lead-out Blue Bloods also experienced a significant gain. The series premiere added 2.22 million viewers, bringing the freshman drama up to 15.25 million viewers for the first episode. In the 18-49 demographic, CSI added a full rating point, bringing the premiere’s rating up to 4.4. Among adults 25-54, CSI gained 1.1 rating points, bringing it to 5.8.
