Harper Receives Honorary Doctorate

Hill Harper (CSI: New York‘s Dr Sheldon Hawkes) attended the commencement ceremonies at Howard University in Washington, DC on Saturday, May 8. Harper was presented with an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the university, which was his parents’ alma mater. They met while attending Howard University Medical School. “If it weren’t for Howard University I would not exist,” Harper said after receiving his honorary doctorate. The actor and author went on to quote Senator Bobby Kennedy: “The future does not belong to those who are fearful of bold projects and new ideas, rather the future belongs to those who can blend passion, reason, and courage into a personal commitment to the great ideals and enterprises of American society.”
