When the contestant of a hot dog eating contest ends up dead, Catherine and Brass go deep into the world of competitive eating in the CSI episode "Dog Eat Dog."

According to CSI Files sources, Catherine is called out to a scene when a body is found in a dumpster. She and Brass retrace the last hours of 30-year-old Jerry Gable's life, from him getting kicked out of an all-you-can-eat buffet, to stealing a pretzel from a stand on the street, and eventually to a hot dog eating contest. Everyone remembers first time contestant Jerry well, especially promoter Digger James, who claims Jerry's insatiable hunger could've led him to become the hot dog eating champion of the world. Catherine and Brass quickly realize Jerry's life seemed to revolve around food, a fact that becomes important in their investigation when they learn Jerry suffered from a strange disorder.

Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes an individual to feel constant hunger, regardless of how much the person eats. This insatiable need for food often leads to obesity and behavioral problems, such as self-harm, temper outbursts, or stealing. Individuals suffering from PSW require supervision from family members or professionals, who often need to physically force the PWS patient from eating themselves to death. Other characteristics of PWS include short stature, mental retardation or learning disabilities, incomplete sexual development, characteristic behavior problems, and low muscle tone.

It is no surprise to Catherine and Brass, then, when they learn Jerry continued to ask for hot dogs even after the competition was over. The other competitors thought he was merely showing off, but Jerry's demand for hot dogs soon grew violent, they recall. They were able to subdue him until a guy wearing a yellow hat came to pick him up, and unaware of Jerry's problems, the contestants merely shrugged his behavior off. Now, Brass and Catherine must track down this mysterious man in the yellow hat in order to find out if Jerry was the victim of murder or victim of his own disorder.

Meanwhile, Nick and Sara investigate the death Michael and Lori Tinsley, a recently divorced couple found dead in the house they used to share. Michael's gun shot wound doesn't raise many eyebrows; however, Lori seems to have been the victim of a unique physical attack.

Their lawyer claims their separation wasn't amicable, in fact, the couple hated each other so much Lori had to install an alarm system in the house to prevent Michael from breaking in to steal things he claimed belonged to him. The alarm system, however, never seemed to keep Michael from breaking into the house the night of their death. The CSIs hit a brick wall - other than their dog Kahlua, Michael and Lori were the only beings in the house. But if Lori shot Michael, or Michael shot himself, who killed Lori?

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour.
