Hello World!

Today is Memorial Day. So let's learn something useful:

Memorial Day is a United States public holiday that takes place on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates US service men and women who died in military service for their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. Today, many Americans use Memorial Day weekend to also honor family members who have passed away. Church services on the Sunday prior to Memorial Day may include a reading of the names of members who have died during the previous 12 months. Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A National Moment of Remembrance takes place at 3 PM. Another tradition is to fly the US Flag at half-staff from dawn until noon local time (Wikipedia).

CSI Files Two Years Ago

Here's what was hot back in early June of 2003:

  • 'CSI' May Provide Windfall For Alliance Atlantis
CBS two years ago agreed to pick up 100% of the production costs for CSI's fifth season and any following as long as the series remains in the top 30 ranked shows in the Nielsen ratings during the fourth season. This would provide Alliance Atlantis Communications, CSI's production company, with a long break from the costly show.

  • Bruckheimer Demands Authenticity On TV
Jerry Bruckheimer owed his TV and movie success to realism. "If you look at our movies, they are about process," Bruckheimer told the New York Daily News. "We do the same thing in CSI and Without a Trace. We'll force a writer to go into the real world and research it or bring the research to them."

  • Zuiker Nabs Three-Year Production Deal
Two year ago, CSI creator Anthony Zuiker signed a multi-million dollar deal with CBS to continue sitting behind the wheel of the CSI franchise. Zuiker also foretold the birth of CSI: New York. "If there wasn't a Law & Order out there with three shows, I might question [the viability of] it, but if someone knocks on my door to ask for a third one, I have the answers in my head," Zuiker said. "I have the characters in my head; I have the tone; I have the story line."
