A film star and a dominatrix could earn CSI: Crime Scene Investigation an Emmy nomination later this year.

"The Accused Is Entitled" and "Lady Heather's Box" have been selected as CSI's official submissions for the Oustanding Drama Series category, according to the William Petersen Appreciation Page.

Voters will view these episodes in order to decide whether CSI will receive a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series this season. While numerous television shows will be put forward for this honour, it is likely only five will eventually receive a nomination. CSI missed out on an Oustanding Drama Series nod in its first season, but picked up a nomination last year, only to miss out to three-time winner, The West Wing.

Originally aired on October 3, 2002, "The Accused Is Entitled" sees the CSIs under unprecedented scrutiny when film star Tom Haviland is accused of murdering a woman. The team struggles to mount the best case possible while the celebrity's legal team dig up past failures to cast doubt on their evidence. To make matters worse, it is Grissom's former mentor who leads the charge to pick holes in their case.

"Lady Heather's Box", which first aired on February 13, 2003, was penned by no less than eight writers. The 90-minute episode reunites Grissom with dominatrix Lady Heather ("Slaves of Las Vegas") when she becomes the subject of a murder investigation. Meanwhile, Catherine has to deal with issues close to home when her daughter nearly drowns and her ex-husband disappears.

The final date for Emmy submissions was April 25, 2003, and nominating ballots will be mailed out next week to members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. All ballots have to be returned by June 20, but the final nominations will not be officially announced by the Academy until a month later on July 17.
