Talks Continue, But Both Sides Keep Quiet
By RachelNovember 29, 2007 - 4:59 AM
As both sides search for a compromise, information is being kept under wraps.
Today was the third day of resumed talks between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Both sides agreed to a news blackout during the negotiations, so neither group has issued press releases about the progress that is being achieved. However, there are differing reports about how the talks are going. Some believe that an agreement will be reached in the near future, while others think that the negotiators are in for a long haul.
Some of the showrunners (writer-producers) have returned to their non-writing duties since the negotiations resumed. Episodes that have been written and produced still might need some work before they are completed. For the CSI franchise, the original show has eleven episodes that will be produced. Eight of them have been aired so far, which leaves three more before they run out of new episodes. CSI: New York has fourteen episodes to be produced, and ten have been aired as of November 28. Spoilers for thirteen episodes of CSI: Miami have been released, and ten episodes have been aired.
In addition planning plane flyovers, more CSI fans are finding ways to support the WGA strikers. A CSI Fan Action Plan was posted online, and it contains suggestions for fans who are interested in participating. The ideas include no longer visiting official websites and message boards, getting in touch with CSI sponsors and choosing not to download and/or stream episodes online until an agreement is reached.
Read more about the resumed strike negotiations at Variety and Deadline Hollywood Daily. Information about how many episodes are left for various scripted shows can be found at TV Guide. The CSI Fan Action Plan can be found here.
