Alliance Atlantis Plunges Into Red

Alliance Atlantis — the company behind CSI — saw its profit figures plunge into the red in the third financial quarter.
The company made a loss of $7.4m in the quarter ending 31 December 2002, according to Reuters/Variety Industry (via Yahoo! News. This compares to a profit of around $14m in the same period last year.
However, revenues at the company, which also owns Candian channels Showcase, Life Network and History Television, rose marginally to to S201.5m from $200.5 million. Advertising revenues were also up 39%.
Alliance are also pleased with the success of the CSI franchise, saying that viewership for the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the most watched series on US television now averages more than 27m viewers per episode (approximately 3m more on average than any other regularly scheduled series on television). CSI is now licenced internationally in more than 165 markets, and is seeing strong ratings outside of North America. Meanwhile, CSI: Miami continues to dominate its Monday night timeslot whilst it remains the number one new series on US television.
"Alliance Atlantis's operating performance in the third quarter was consistent with our expectations and included remarkable growth in the advertising revenues of the broadcast group," Alliance chief executive Michael MacMillan said in a statement.
