Kanakaredes Shares Her Life As A Modern Mom

Actress Melina Kanakaredes (Stella Bonasera) has a thriving career in television and a happy family. How does this busy mother of two do it? She recently shared some of her secrets.
The actress defines a “modern mom” as, “Any mom who has had a baby in the last ten or so years … inevitably we all start sounding like our own moms. Therefore the modernization of ‘mom’ is just dealing with today’s obstacles. Like our mothers we do it all, the only difference is our careers force us to be even stronger multi-taskers.”
Kanakaredes has a couple secrets to balancing her high-profile career with family. The first element is an amazing husband. But also she believes in putting family first no matter how unconventional the methods have to be. “For instance 6:00 pm is family dinner time in our household. We eat together whether our dinner table is in my trailer downtown, at the set or in our kitchen.”
Not only is Kanakaredes a devoted mother, but she is also active in charitable causes, including supporting the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, which has raised more than $23 million for children with AIDS, and recently contributing to the Clothes off Our Back Foundation Golden Globe online charity auction. She signed a customized Starbucks t-shirt designed by Mychael Knight of Project Runway at the Backstage Creations Celebrity Gift Retreat during the Golden Globes.
