Hello World!
CSI fan that I am, I'm usually skeptical about other TV shows. But I recently had the chance to watch Cold Case, and I think I have a new reason not to go out on weekends!
A friend of mine tried to get me to watch the show a couple of months ago, but I honestly don't have neither the time nor the attention span to focus on more than one or two shows at the same time (and even with CSI I always get distracted by strange noises or little ants crawling through the TV screen. Lucky for you, I don't have to write the episode reviews). I think I'll make this a Sunday night ritual, though.
I knew before I watched the show that the main character was a woman, which is the reason why I always tried to catch an episode. I'm oh, so glad that a Bruckheimer show has a female as the lead. One of my biggest complains regarding the CSI franchise is that there are no female leads. Sure, you could call Marg Helgenberger and Melina Kanakaredes leads, but they're leads the way Screech on Saved by the Bell was a lead. It was always about Zack, he was in the background (I don't know what's more embarrassing, the SBTB reference or the fact that it reveals I used to watch the show).
Cold Case, however, is all woman. Kathryn Morris's Lilly Rush is always the main focus. And she has cats, people! Cats! She's a loser, too! I also dig the flashbacks and the music (good times), but seeing the woman appearing first in the opening credits? The single tear, folks! I only hope that if there is a 3rd spin-off (I hear the incessant booing coming a mile away) the producers take Cold Case as an example and make the lead a female. Come on, Zuiker. We're not that moody.
