CSI: New York's leading man shows his support for the U.S. military.
Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) first took part in the National Memorial Day Concert two years ago. Sinise told TV Guide that it "was great. I said, 'If there's anything you need me for next year, let me know.' And they asked me to cohost." This year, Sinise is returning to cohost a second time. The concert airs on PBS Sunday, May 27, at 8:00 p.m. EST. The show takes place in Washington, D.C. and will have performances that include Josh Turner, CeCe Winans, Natalie Cole and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Sinise has been supporting the troops for several years. He began doing tours overseas in 2003 and has been to both Iraq and Afghanistan. After visiting the troops several times, he told the folks at the USO that "I play music with some guys. Why don't you let me take a band?" Since then, he has been entertaining U.S. troops around with world with the Lt. Dan Band, named after his famous character from Forrest Gump.
"If we're going to ask people to go into harm's way for very little money and then we forget about them, that does nothing to strengthen our country," Sinise said. There are ways for people to get involved and help the troops if they are interested. "There are dozens of websites and organizations that have been started," he said. He also pointed out that the Defense Department has created a website to bring the different organizations together on the Internet: AmericaSupportsYou.mil.
