Mendelsohn Talks About Schreiber

Tony Award winning actor Liev Schreiber signed on for a four episode arc scheduled during William Petersen’s hiatus from CSI. The New York Post speculated that may be a sign that CBS is looking for a new star for CSI.
Filling Petersen’s shoes, even for a short stint, wasn’t easy. Producers had to consider what type of actor could step in for him. “The ‘CSI’ stars have such intelligence,” says executive producer Carol Mendelsohn. “And they also have something that’s more soulful than intelligence. They have the heart that most heroes have.”
Schrieber was identified as having what it takes to fill the role. The presence of his character on the show is controversial. In “Redrum,” which aired this week, Catherine (played by Marg Hergenberger) finds herself siding with Keppler in a scheme to deceive her team. One of her team members is unable to let that go at the end of the episode.
While Schreiber only signed on for four episodes, Mendelsohn was vague when asked about his future on the show. “I think everyone has to watch the episodes,” she says.
