"Fur and Loathing" takes CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's penchant for bizarre cases to a whole new level, according to a review published in TV Guide.
"The writers at CSI have come up with some strange and kinky cases to investigate in the past (think the scuba diver in a tree or Lady Heather)," TV Guide said of the episode, which revolves around the death of an attendee at a "furry" convention. "But in this truly bizarre episode they've outdone themselves, which makes you wonder: do they have vivid imaginations or does stuff like this really happen?"
"Fur and Loathing" was written by Jerry Stahl, the man behind Lady Heather's debut in "Slaves of Las Vegas" and "Justice Is Served", which featured a nutritionist who harvested the internal organs of unspecting joggers. According to TV Guide, the episode starts when "a man dressed in a full raccoon suit becomes roadkill after he's hit by a car on a dark stretch of highway. When Grissom and Catherine arrive, they discover he has also been shot. It turns out the dude is part of a weird group that believes in acting on animal instinct."
Willie Garson, probably best known for playing Stanford Blatch on HBO's comedy series, Sex and the City, guest stars in "Fur and Loathing". His numerous credits include NYPD Blue, Party of Five, Stargate SG-1, Groundhog Day and, most recently, Steven Spielberg Presents Taken.
Several familiar CSI faces also make appearances, including Geoffrey Rivas as Detective Sam Vega, Wallace Langham as lab technician David Hodges and the ever-present David Berman as coroner's assistant David Phillips.
Veteran CSI director Richard Lewis ("Assume Nothing") helmed the episode.
"Fur and Loathing" is slated to air at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday on CBS.
