Gerald McCullouch: 'I Have A Lot Of Respect For The CSIs'
By CarolinaJune 26, 2006 - 10:55 PM
In a recent chat at Elyse's CSI Site, Gerald McCullouch (Bobby Dawson) explained how he leaned everything about guns.
"My initial education on ballistics, a few night before we shot that very first episode, "Cool Change," was with an awesome guy named J.D. who was a NY Port Authority Cop," he explained. "He taught me how to dismantle a gun, explained the parts of a gun and the function they perform, taught me how to hold a gun correctly, all the basics. He was killed in 9-11 so for me, CSI became a personal little tribute to him."
Working on CSI has given McCullouch a great appreciation for law enforcement officers, he revealed. "I have a lot of respect for the CSI's. In the end, we're doing a really good thing. Solving a crime, explaining someone's death, proving right from wrong/legal from illegal, truth vs. non truth. And just like any situation with co-workers, there are times I agree with their actions and insights and others when I think, 'Hang on a second. How come I know more about this than you do? Put me out in the field gosh dangit! All these late nights in all this blue lighting is making me itch for some out door Vegas!'"
Fans may never see Bobby in the field, but McCullouch hopes the character's screen time increases and the writers flesh him out a little bit more. Unfortunately, the editors seem to have a knack for leaving his favorite scenes in the cutting room floor. "Some of my favorite moments are ones that ended up getting cut. At the start of this past season, Greg and I had a heated little political talk about the NRA and stuff, I liked that one a lot. But, yep - it was cut."
