People Have An Endless Appetite For Mystery, Says Sinise

Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) told radio host John Ziegler CSI's original formula is what keeps viewers coming back for more.

"People just have an endless appetite for Sherlock Holmes-driven types of mystery stories," he said. "As long as you continue to re-invent the genre in some way, and I think that's what CSI and Anthony Zuiker did with the crime genre, as long as you continue to find new ways to tell these good-cop-after-the-bad-guy stories, people will continue to watch them."

Sinise is better known for doing movies, and when he decided to accept the role of Mac Taylor on CSI he surprised even his agents. "They were very patient with me cause I had to wrestle with the idea of doing CSI, but I think it was just the best thing I could've done at this time. I don't want to leave town, I wanted to prioritize very much being around my kids while they go through their teen years."

"I wanted to have a family life, and CSI was kind of a gift that allows me to have the security of knowing I have a job, money's coming in, and I can be around my kids all the time and be around my wife and just concentrate on the family life," he added. "The celebrity and all that spotlight stuff, that's not the important thing to me."
