Juan Carlos Vasquez is chopping tobacco in his cigar store when he hears a strange noise. He goes to investigate, and when he returns, his knife has disappeared! He dials 911, but before he can speak, a figure grabs him from behind. It's up to Horatio Caine to catch the killer in "Blood Moon."
According to CSI Files sources, Horatio and Delko are called to the scene, where it is clear Vasquez was tortured and beaten before the killer finally slit his throat. Horatio mentions that he came from another crime scene, and that during the full moon, the crime rate always seems to rise.
Vasquez's murder isn't the only one the CSIs have to deal with. A young man named Jim Doyle has been found dead from a gunshot wound by an ATM machine. While Horatio and Delko investigate Vasquez's murder, Calleigh and Speedle must get to the bottom of Doyle's death. Logic would suggust it's a robbery, but the cash Doyle was withdrawing from the ATM still sits in the machine, untouched.
Calleigh and Speedle examine the ATM tape and watch Doyle's moves closely. Just before he was shot, a car pulled up in the parking lot. Doyle turned around, and seemed to recognize the new arrival--just before the trigger was pulled.
Horatio and Yelina question Vasquez's much-younger girlfriend, Wanda Arenas. They learn that Vasquez cheated on Wanda and that the pair broke up just before Vasquez was murdered. But was it motive enough for murder?
Horatio traces the last call that came to Vasquez before he killed to a cell phone that belongs to a woman named Maria Coto, who he finds on the beach, bringing supplies to Cuban refugees who have made it to shore. She hands over the cell phone, but denies calling him.
Calleigh and Speedle continue to work the Doyle case, but are puzzled when Alexx can't locate the bullet that should be in his chest...
