Horatio's Darkest Secret To Surface During Season 4

By Carolina
July 25, 2005 - 3:10 PM

The fourth season of CSI: Miami promises to be dark for front man Horatio Caine, who will struggle coming to terms with a dark secret, according to Miami's newest producer Barry O'Brien.

The character closed a chapter in his life last season with the awaited encounter with his brother Raymond, but the producers intend to send the character through another rollercoaster ride of emotions. The season premiere will see Horatio attending church feverish in search of absolution through the form of confession, and the character's reasons for it are more perturbing than simple Catholic tradition.

"We'll discover Horatio killed someone in a non-line-of-duty capacity," O'Brien announced at this year's TCA Summer Press Tour. "That secret and his search for penance will be the engine [that drives] season four."

Season four will also focus on other characters, such as Calleigh Duquesne. The character was last seen walking away from her job during "10-7," in which ex-lover John Hagen committed suicide in front of the ballistics expert. Calleigh's inability to come to terms with the traumatic event will prompt her to focus her efforts on unsolved cases. But Duquesne will not be able to ignore her strong calling, and will return to the ballistics lab promptly. O'Brien also promised the character will receive an "edgy" personal storyline.

A new regular character will also be added to the Miami roster. Natalia Boa Vista will be brought to the lab on a grant to solve cold cases. The character's work is not unknown in the Jerry Bruckheimer world, as he also oversees the production of Cold Case, a show dedicated to the investigation of unresolved cases. Boa Vista's work at the lab, however, doesn't bode well with the other CSIs, who think fresh cases should be priority. This, along with the DNA analyst's unyielding personality, will cause much tension around the lab. It is not yet known who will portray Boa Vista.
