Hello World!
There appears to be a new trend starting this fall, or more correctly, this winter. Two of the most exciting shows on television, 24 and Alias won't be starting their fourth seasons this fall. Both have been picked up for next year, but the new seasons won't debut until January 2005.
Allow me to take a minute here to express my disappointment. The argument is that both series, which are based on evolving plot arcs and constant exciting developments, would benefit from uninterrupted runs. Rather than debuting early and having gaps of a month here (as Fox did with 24 in March), or a week or two there (like ABC did with the two weeks before the season finale of Alias), the shows will premiere in January and run with little interruption.
Good idea, or bad? I'm torn. I think shows like these two benefit from as few interruptions as possible, but January is awfully late for shows to premiere. It's a long time to wait to find out what happens to our favorite characters. And, I find it hard to believe that Alias won't be preempted once or twice (for the Academy Awards certainly, and maybe for one of ABC's made-for-TV movies). 24 might get the actual uninterrupted run, but it almost got that anyways, since it premiered late to begin with--the very end of October or the beginning of November.
I suppose it all comes down to personal preference. I'm no fan of big breaks in the action of 24 or Alias, but I'd rather not have to wait until next year to see new episodes of two of my favorite shows! I'd prefer the occasional break here and there to waiting until January. At least we know CBS isn't going to pull this with any of the CSI shows!

Today's Television Listings
Tonight, CBS will air "Innocent", the second season finale of CSI: Miami. Here is Yahoo! TV's description of the episode:
All evidence points to the film distributor, who also happens to be a registered sex offender, in the investigation of an adult film star's murder, but an accident at the lab may taint a key piece of evidence.
On Thursday, CBS will show a rerun of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's episode "Eleven Angry Jurors". Here is TV Guide's description of the episode:
A reviled juror is found dead in the jury room after refusing to go along with his 11 counterparts in voting a defendant guilty in a murder trial; a woman claims that her sister was murdered four years earlier by her brother-in-law who allegedly burned the body and threw the ashes into a river.
