'Law & Order' Moves Away From 'CSI: New York'

NBC announced this weekend Law & Order will make a small trek from 10 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday nights.

The show, which currently airs opposite CSI: New York, will go head to head against the ratings powerhouse Lost, prompting critics to wonder if NBC is hoping for a quick death for the series.

Law & Order's numbers have decreased exponentially in recent years, and it finally saw its biggest drop when CSI: New York came around. The show was down 13 million viewers last year as it struggled against New York in the ratings battle. This year, the original NBC powerhouse finally lost its #1 spot in the 10 timeslot to Gary Sinise and his gang.

While the Law & Order crowd is now faced with the possibility of cancellation, the move to 9 pm is no doubt good news for the CSI: New York team. New York, once the little CSI show that could, has seen a pleasing increase in its numbers this year, and without Law & Order these numbers could continue to rise.

Meanwhile, Law & Order creator Dick Wolf knows the show may not survive the ratings monster that is Lost, however, he has decided to ride it out. "It's like a long-term marriage," Wolf told The Associated Press. "There are stresses and strains intermittently, but we are kind of stuck with each other."

Law & Order's official move to 9 pm will take place on March 22nd. Head over to newsday.com to read the rest of the article.
