It's business as usual in sunny Miami.
"Resurrection", the seventh season premiere of CSI: Miami, picks up where season six left off. Horatio Caine (David Caruso) was shot and left for dead, and the finale ended as the camera panned back through his broken sunglasses. Pop Matters commented that Horatio's trademark shades are symbolic for the show:
- Those sunglasses stand in for everything that is just a little bit ridiculous about CSI: Miami. They are so obviously "cool," so affected and self-consciously deployed by the show's resident bad-ass, they seem a commentary on Miami as all affect and self-consciousness.
The premiere finds the team "unraveling the connections between Horatio's shooting and the introduction into Miami's underworld of new high-tech alloy bullets capable of penetrating armor of all kinds; personal or vehicular," according to the review. A review from TVaholic described "Resurrection" as a typical offering from the Miami-based member of the CSI franchise:
- Tonight's episode is just what you'd expect from the series: beautiful people and places, explosions, gun battles, high-heeled investigators, Hummers, sunglasses and a bunch of twists and turns leading up to an ending you probably saw coming.
The review criticized the high-tech nature of the series, comparing it to science fiction. "Some of the stuff in that lab looks like it should be on the Starship Enterprise [from Star Trek]," the reviewer explained. "Neither of the other two CSI versions has gone down this road tech wise. It is just another way the show has gone over the top." Despite the comment about Miami's gadgets, the review claimed, "if you like this show, then you will like this episode."
The original reviews are from Pop Matters and TVaholic.
