The CSIs will reportedly investigate a shooting involving a young man from one of Miami's richest families in the fifth episode of CSI: Miami's sophomore season, "The Best Defense".
In the instalment, a masked gunman will decend upon Cool's Bar in the early hours of the morning, killing its two owners, sources today told CSI Files. Also wounded in the attack is twentysomething rich kid Ricky Delmonte, a college buddy of the two victims.
Ricky has the same hand wounds as one of his friends, indicating a fist fight. Laid up in hospital, Ricky tells Horatio he got the wounds trying to stop the gunman before he shot both of his friends. But Horatio's questioning is soon interrupted by Aaron Schecter, the Delmonte family lawyer, whose first call of duty is clear: to protect to the name of his clients.
The finger of suspicion soon points to Angelo Kosta, the owner of a rival nightclub, whose fingerprints were discovered on a bottle of ouzo found in Cool's Bar. Kosta seems to be the perfect suspect: he's aggressive, argumentative and uncooperative, and even has wound marks on his hands.
Kosta's guilt seems to be solidified when a gun is found in a dumpster behind his club by a private security firm hired by the Delmontes. There's only one problem: it wasn't there when Tim Speedle searched the premises on the previous day...
"The Best Defense" will reportedly introduced the Miami crime lab's fingerprint technician, Ben McCadden, who asks Calleigh out on a date. But Calleigh has bigger things on her mind — her dad's back, and he's drinking again.
Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from an early draft of the script and details may change before the episode goes to air.
"The Best Defense" will likely air in October, 2003.
