‘CSI’ Opens Season At Cirque De Soleil

As the seventh season of CSI:Crime Scene Investigation opens, actors William Petersen (Gil Grissom), Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows), and George Eads (Nick Stokes) share their thoughts on the first episode, which was filmed in part on location in Las Vegas.
The season opener takes place on the set of Cirque De Soleil, one of Las Vegas’ most dazzling shows. According to Helgenberger, all the tiers and levels of Cirque De Soleil make it the perfect scene for a crime. The crime committed in the episode confuses reality and the stage, playing tricks on Grissom’s mind.
The show is usually filmed near Los Angeles, but according to Petersen, “There’s no better place to kick off the seventh season than Nevada.” Of Nevada, Petersen says, “It’s always been a big, huge part of the show and it helps for us to be here.” Eads adds, “There’s an authenticity that it brings to the show that, for me, you know, I like to make it as real as I can anyway.”
The premiere also features a performance by John Mayer that provides the backdrop for a seductive dance between Catherine and Nick. The idea was Helgenberger’s. “In six years, we never just have fun, you know? And of course, it doesn’t last long,” she says. Eads claims their dance “wasn’t ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ “We weren’t sliding on our knees or anything. It was just a little sexy kind of dancing, and I will dance with Marg anytime.”
