CSI: New York has been quickly snapped up by several foreign networks before the official screenings for overseas buyers.
Alliance Atlantis, the Canadian co-producer and distributor of the CSI franchise, yesterday announced the Big Apple spin-off has already been bought by Britain's Five, France's TF1, VOX in Germany, Telecinco in Spain and Australia's Channel 9. According to an Alliance Atlantis press release, further sales are expected at the official Los Angeles screenings of the CSI: New York pilot for foreign buyers.
Ted Riley, Alliance Atlantis' head of international sales, said:"For these five strong broadcasters to have now committed to all three CSI series is a terrific show of support for the world's most popular drama franchise." CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Miami have been sold to 150 territories worldwide and it is likely New York will soon follow suit.
The CSI: Miami cross-over episode which introduced the Big Apple spin-off, "MIA/NYC - NonStop", was watched by over 23 million people, the second highest-rated episode of Miami ever behind the premiere, "Golden Parachute". The series stars Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump) as Detective Mac Taylor and Melina Kanakaredes (Providence) as his partner, Detective Stella Bonasera.
CSI: New York will air 10:00 p.m. Wednesdays on CBS from this fall. Head over to Yahoo! News to read the original press release.
