Nina Tassler: 'NY' To Get Stronger Big Apple Feel

Nina Tassler recently participated in the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour, where she confirmed the changes being done to CSI: New York next season.

The CBS Entertainment President corroborated the show will go through a complete transformation, which will include an absolute renovation of the set and the addition of a new character. The producers as well as the network were concerned the show wasn't evincing the Big Apple well.

"We were able to revamp the show based on what we learned in season one. We weren't happy with the look of the morgue, the lighting," Tassler told the New York Daily News. "It had to find its own rhythm. It has to find its own look. They've now really got the tone, the style, the rhythms of New York."

Tassler also took the opportunity to answer the question that has been addressed numerous times before: has television seen an overflow of procedural dramas? According to Tassler, the answer is no. "Our viewers haven't told us that," she said. "While many of the shows on the surface might seem to be alike or of the same genre, they are actually different. There are different crimes, different looks, different tones and different styles."

But that doesn't mean the network will continue to focus on procedural dramas solely. Next season, fans may see an increase in TV movies and mini-series on Sunday nights. According to Tassler, the network plans to use these fight the Sunday night ratings monster Desperate Housewives. "We know we're up against a juggernaut on Sunday nights, so we have to adjust our strategy. We really are starting to aggressively look for different kinds of shows."

But despite the competition the ABC show provides, Tassler revealed the addition of the show, as well as others such as Lost, has helped network television regain its ratings crown. "Network television turned a corner this year -- we've reclaimed control of the water cooler from cable."
