'CSI:Miami' Blog Updated

The latest entry in the CSI:Miami writer’s blog is by freelance writer / executive producer’s assistant Dominic Abeyta. Abeyta recently penned his first episode, #514 “No Man’s Land” and shares a couple interesting tidbits regarding the episode.

The first interesting tidbit is the meaning of the episode number. In the case of “No Man’s Land,” the episode is 514. The first digit represents the season number and the last two digits represent the number of the episode for that particular season. Episode 514 is the 14th episode of the 5th season.

The second interesting tidbit is the manner in which character names are selected. Abeyta started out using names of his friends. The names are then submitted to a clearance company that inputs the names into a database. Depending on the name of the character and the character’s profession, the name is either okayed or rejected. In order for a name to be okayed, there needs to be either more than five real people with that name or zero. Often the first name is cleared but not the last, so alternative last names are submitted throughout the rewrite process.

Abeyta has been with CSI:Miami since the first season. Initially he was a writer’s assistant. He is currently executive producer Ann Donahue’s assistant.
