"A lot of people gave me a chance, and I probably wouldn't be here in the business and have this longevity if it weren't for a lot of people," CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's Gary Dourdan declared in a recent interview.

The actor who plays Warrick Brown told CBS' Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen that he never expected to star on a top-rated series.

"We knew it was good, we knew we were doing something else on TV, but No. 1 show in the world? It's bizarre," he said, recalling that after shooting the pilot they had no inkling of the success that lay in store for the show.

Dourdan features prominently in the episode scheduled for October 23rd, "Invisible Evidence", in which a homicide investigation is dependent on Brown's testimony after an illegal search renders the murder weapon inadmissible as evidence.

"If something is not done right, then [the judge] can throw the whole case out," Dourdan explained. "It doesn't matter if beyond a shadow of a doubt this guy's guilty."

Speaking to real forensic investigators, he added, has taught him about the practical aspects of the job.

"Some of them say they still can't deal with the smell of what it smells like to go into the death scene, it just stays on your clothes...so we try and personify more of that when we work."
