President George W Bush has asked the major television networks to air a farewell address on Thursday during primetime. The speech will start at 8:00pm ET and last 10-15 minutes. It will be delivered from the East Room of the White House. Joining Bush will be a small audience of people chosen for their personal courage.

This speech will be the last scheduled public event before Bush steps down to be replaced by President-Elect Barack Obama on January 20. "It's not something where he's trying to refight old battles. It's a very thoughtful, forward-looking speech in which the president will share the lessons he learned in office and his views on the future," said press secretary Dana Perino.

The farewell speech is part of a ritual followed by past presidents. "This is not going to be a swan song to the president's administration, although he will defend his record, but it will be very gracious to President-elect Obama," Perino said. CBS has announced that it will air the Thursday night lineup as planned once the farewell address is over. The repeat of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's last episode, "19 Down", will air at 8:15pm ET, and the final episode for William Petersen (Gil Grissom), "One to Go", will begin at 9:15pm ET. Viewers planning to use a digital video recorder (DVR) to catch the episode should check their local schedule so they know when to start recording.

The original information is from Reuters and the Associated Press. The information about CBS airing the address is from The Futon Critic.
