'CSI' Presumed To Be A 'Slam Dunk' For Emmy Nod

With the announcement of Emmy nominations coming on Thursday, early predictions are claiming that CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will almost certainly walk away with a nomination in the Best Drama category.

Both The Hollywood Reporter and GoldDerby.com predict CSI is a frontrunner for one of the five Best Drama slots. CSI has been nominated twice before, in 2002 and 2003, but lost both times to The West Wing, which has won the award four years in a row.

24, The Sopranos, and The West Wing are also considered strong frontrunners for Best Drama nominations, with the fifth slot open for debate. CSI's lead out show Without a Trace is a possible contender for the final slot, as are Nip/Tuck, Deadwood, Law & Order, and The Shield.

Acting nominations for CSI are up in the air, though GoldDerby.com considers both William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) as possible contenders, though neither is considered a frontrunner. Helgenberfer has been nominated twice before for the Best Actress statue, in 2001 and 2003, but didn't nab it either time.
