Zuiker Hip-Hops To Reality

After creating CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which he describes as the "biggest show of the decade", executive producer Anthony Zuiker plans to revolutionise the genre of reality television.

Zuiker recently pitched a rap-themed reality series, currently entitled Ruckus, to CBS head honcho Les Moonves, the New York Times reported.

Ruckus will give four people the "chance to rap against somebody like Snoop Dogg", Zuiker said, and is set to include a DJ, breakdancers and a graffiti artist in addition to a real-life rap artist. "If you're a 16-year-old Iowa dude, and this kid gets to rap against Snoop, of course you're going to watch it," the writer said about the viability of the concept.

Les Moonves said the CSI writer-producer gave him the lowdown on the concept by "break-dancing on his head all around the room". While Ruckus is unlikely to appeal to CBS's older, more conservative audience, Moonves said the reality series may work at the smaller Viacom network, UPN.

After the success of CSI and CSI: Miami, can lightning strike twice? According to Zuiker, the answer is a definite 'yes'. "I saw CSI so clearly, and it came true. I want everybody to see when I step up and pitch, it should come true again. There's no reason why Ruckus shouldn't be huge."

Ruckus is currently in the development stage and has yet to be greenlit by either CBS or UPN. The complete interview with Zuiker is available at the New York Times.
