The American Society for Clinical Pathology will honor CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’s William Petersen with an ASCP Special Recognition Award this September at the society's annual meeting.

Petersen, one of the stars and executive producers of the top-rated drama, will appear at the meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 18 to receive the award, according to Pathology Today, which sponsors the event.

The ASCP will honor Petersen for increasing public awareness of forensic and investigative sciences through CSI. Petersen has also testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the need for increased funding for crime labs. On the Pathology Today web site, Petersen is credited with insisting on authenticity and cutting-edge laboratory equipment.

In 1979, Quincy star Jack Klugman, who also played a television pathologist, received a Special Recognition Award from the California Association for Medical Technology.

ASCP President E. Eugene Baillie, MD will present the award to Petersen at the opening ceremonies of the annual meeting. For more information, check Pathology Today. Thank you to Elyse's CSI site for this news.
