CSI: Crime Scene Investigation production designer Richard Berg was recently recognised with an Art Directors Guild Award nomination.

Berg received the nod in the category of Excellence in Production Design in a Single-Camera Television Series for the third-season episode, "Lady Heather's Box", according to a press release at the guild web site. It is the first ADG nomination for both Berg and CSI.

Speaking with Variety's Stuart Levine, the production designer said CSI offered up constant challenges, especially when location shooting is required. "Not many casinos want to have a murder at their place, but as the years progressed they understood what we do, and people don't actually think somebody is going to be killed in their hotel."

Not only is CSI the most-watched programme on television, it also draws a crowd during filming in Las Vegas. "There's always throngs of people watching us film," Berg said. "It's invigorating. I love it that people are interested."

When the winners are announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel this Saturday night, Berg will go head to head with another series based in the casino capital. Peter Politanof, production designer for NBC's Las Vegas, has also been nominated in the Single-Camera Television Series category. The other nominees are 24, Alias and Carnivale.

The full list of nominations can be found at the ADG web site, while the Variety piece is available via Yahoo! News.
