Naren Shankar Discusses Emmy Chances For 'CSI'

CSI writer and co-showrunner Naren Shankar has made peace with the idea that CSI may never get an Emmy.
"The show understands that there's always something new and hotter," he told Daily Variety. "There are so many things that are out of your control, so you just make the best show you can."
Shankar also understands CSI often gets ignored by the academy because the show does not primarily focus on emotions, but rather science. "When you don't have characters screaming or crying, like on the more classically rewarded shows, it's tough. A lot of shows get overlooked or forgotten."
This also makes things hard for the actors, whose portrayals of these mainly unemotional characters fail to catch the Academy's attention. "Take a look at our lead, Billy Petersen. Here's a guy who's created a unique and interesting character on TV and he's done a lot of it in silence," he explained. "It's so much easier when somebody is crying or screaming or dying to look at them and say, 'What a great performance.'"
