Gary Sinise: 'USO Is Not Just Overseas'

By Carolina
June 11, 2006 - 6:53 AM

Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) recently visited the Whiteman Air Force Base near Knob Noster, Mo. as part of his USO tour.

The actor and his band, the Lt. Dan Band, travel around the world to play for stationed soldiers, but this week the band is playing for soldiers stationed in the US. "People forget that the USO is not just overseas," he said, "and the people at bases throughout the U.S. need to know we care, too."

Sinise has never been shy about his support for the troops, or his frustration with the press for the negative portrayal of the war in Iraq. It's one of the reasons why he dedicates his free time to them. "They're working hard, and you don't hear about the day-to-day achievements. You mostly hear about when something goes wrong."

The actor's family, he said, understands his commitment to USO, which Sinise will be fulfilling during the New York hiatus. "I have no idea what I'm going to be doing (on CSI) next year," he added. "We have about 11 weeks between seasons and I don't have much time to do anything else."
