Steve Ryan, who appeared on both CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Miami, died last week.
Ryan appeared in two CSI episodes: "A Bullet Runs Through It, Part 1" and "A Bullet Runs Through It, Part 2". He portrayed Sergeant Adams in the episodes, which aired during the show's sixth season. He later did a guest spot on Miami as Morris Yates, Walter Resden's abusive foster father in "Skeletons" during season four.
Because of his strong presence, Ryan was often cast in roles as police officers and detectives. In addition to CSI, Ryan played Lieutenant Lane in an episode of NYPD Blue and also had recurring roles on several other shows. Among these were Oz (as Officer Mike Healy) and Crime Story (as Detective Nate Grossman). Ryan did other types of roles as well, including a 16-episode stint on The West Wing, playing Secretary of Defense Miles Hutchinson.
An actor familiar with both television and theater, Ryan died on September 3 at the age of 55. His death came after a long illness. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
