David Caruso: For Horatio, Justice Is Therapy

DCF has obtained an interview with David Caruso (Horatio Caine) from the magazine Supertele. In it, the actor gives an inside scoop on his character's motivations.
"For Horatio, being able to do justice or help other people is therapeutic; it redeems him of his past," the actor told the Spanish magazine. "He's a just man who inspires trust. When something comes out of his mouth, you believe it."
Caruso revealed season 4 will dwell more deeply into Horatio's psyche, his past, and why it makes him so obsessed with doing the right thing. "We'll see why Horatio sometimes seems so empty," he explained.
"My character drags the weight of a crime he committed in the past. 10 years ago, he was a guy with a volatile temperament in New York. He made a mistake but his intentions were just, and that event helps explain why he's so protective of women and children."
Being able to portray such a complex character is one of the many reasons why Caruso is so thankful to have CSI: Miami. "It has a lot of rewards. The series makes you want to give everything you have as an actor," he said. "With CSI: Miami I feel complete."
