'CSI' Is The People's Choice

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was last night named favourite TV drama at the People's Choice Awards for the third consecutive year.
Star Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) accepted the gong on behalf of the cast and crew, according to reports by the Reuters news agency. CSI beat off competition from Alias, Gilmore Girls, The O.C. and The Sopranos to claim the award for Favourite TV Drama, having previously won in 2003 and 2004.
It was a busy night for Helgenberger, who also took home the award for favourite female TV star, which she accepted from Star Trek and Boston Legal star William Shatner. The other nominees were the two Will & Grace ladies, Debra Messing and Megan Mullally, Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls and Alias star Jennifer Garner.
CSI: New York was nominated for best new TV drama series, but lost out to ABC's ratings juggernaut, Desperate Housewives. Other television winners included Will & Grace for favourite comedy and Joey for best new comedy series.
Unlike other television awards, such as the Emmys and Golden Globes, the People's Choice Awards are voted for by the viewers themselves. The nominees were selected by 6,000 members of an Entertainment Weekly panel across the entertainment media of television, film and music. The ballot was then thrown open to all viewers through an online voting system, with 21 million people participating in the process.
