Hello World!

Sometimes, life can be quite unfair. Right now, Carolina is undoubtedly making millions at the roulette table, jumping in luxurious pools, or doing unspeakable things to the CSI stars if she happens to run into them while on holiday in Vegas. Meanwhile, I'm... not.

A few months ago, it seemed like such a great idea to finally keep my summer free for a change. No impossible deadlines keeping me working through the night and trying to catch up sleep while everyone else was at the beach. And no stressful holiday to some Mediterannean town overrun by tourists. Instead, I'd spend my days reading good books in the park, rollerblading through town, and developing a healthy tan. But instead, here in the Netherlands we're having the worst summer in years. Judging from the map the weatherman's map each evening, pretty much everyone else in Europe is having lots of fun, while it seems as if we're getting the entire contents of the North Sea dumped over our heads every day. And I didn't even know it was possible to get hail stones in summer!

Oh well. At least I'm finally getting through Tolstoy. And if I mix it up with Temptation Island repeats in the evening, I get to see a bit of sun, too.

CSI Files Two Years Ago

Below are some of the most interesting news items that we published during the second week of August, 2003:

  • Zuiker Hip-Hops To Reality
The New York Times reported that CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker proposed a rap-themed reality series called Ruckus to CBS head Les Moonves. The show would feature four people being given the chance to rap against artists like Snoop Dogg, and would include a DJ, breakdancers and a graffiti artist in addition to a real-life rap artist. Zuiker himself was sure the show had hit potential: "If you're a 16-year-old Iowa dude, and this kid gets to rap against Snoop, of course you're going to watch it." Unfortunately, in the end Moonves didn't really seem to be down with Ruckus -- the show still hasn't materialized on either CBS or UPN.

  • 'CSI' Emmy Submissions Revealed
The Emmy Award experts at GoldDerby.com revealed the "big eight" CSI episodes that were selected to be mailed to the members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, in an effort to persuade them to vote for CSI in the Emmy awards. The effort eventually proved unsuccessful, as CSI lost out to The West Wing in the Outstanding Drama Series category, while Outstanding Lead Actress nominee Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) saw The Sopranos' Edie Falco take home the statuette.

  • Las Vegas Gets A New Sheriff
The first spoilers for the fourth-season episode "Invisible Evidence" revealed that Gil Grissom's long-time nemesis Brian Mobley would soon be replaced by Rory Atwater. Atwater made his most recent appearance in the fifth-season episode "Formalities."

Corrections

In our news item about Brendan Fehr joining CSI: Miami, we originally wrote he was born in Winnipeg, Canada. In actual fact, he was born in New Westminster, and only shortly thereafter moved to Winnipeg. Thanks go out to Michelle for letting us know about this!

  • Tonight at 10:00pm, CBS will be repeating CSI: Miami's "After the Fall." Here's how the network describes the episode:

The CSIs must investigate when a pedestrian is killed after a man falls from a building and lands on him. Horatio and the team find that the victim found on the sidewalk is not the same man who fell from the building, but the unfortunate person he landed on. The CSIs discover that the fallen victim is in possession of a sex DVD involving a top Miami criminal judge and a woman with a sordid sex life. Now, when the woman is found dead, the team must delve into the complicated personal lives of those in Miami's judicial system in order to find the killer...

  • On Wednesday at 10:00pm, you'll be able to watch a repeat of CSI: New York's "Supply and Demand." CBS describes the episode as follows:

When a college student is beaten, shot to death and his apartment ransacked in what appears to be a drug-related hit, the team must track down his killers. After examining the evidence in the murdered student’s apartment, the team finds traces of pure, unprocessed heroin and discovers that the victim had a female roommate who is now missing. Meanwhile, Stella’s aggressive interrogation tactics with a witness threaten her police badge.

  • Finally, on Thursday at 9:00pm, CBS has scheduled a repeat of the original CSI's "Hollywood Brass." This is what you can expect from the episode:

Captain Brass travels to Los Angeles and requests the assistance of his former colleague, LAPD Captain Annie Kramer, when his estranged daughter Ellie calls for help after her friend turns up missing. When the woman is found dead, Brass turns to Warrick, who is in Los Angeles for a CSI convention, to help him and the LAPD track down the killer.

In addition to the above episodes on CBS, cable channel SpikeTV will of course continue its daily CSI repeats.
