Hall Didn't Want To Play 'Ghoulish Guy'

Robert David Hall (Dr. Robbins) knew right away that he didn't want to play a morbid character, even though he'd be portraying a coroner.
In an interview at the San Antonio Express-News, Hall said his vision for the character of Dr. Robbins meshed well with that of the producers. "I told them right from the get-go, 'I'm not going to play your ghoulish guy,'" he said. "I want to be a guy who has respect for and sees death as part of life, and that's what they were looking for."
Hall, who has been playing Dr. Robbins since CSI's first season, still loves the character. "Dr. Robbins is so damn much fun," he said. "I get to play with the fake hearts and I get to say 15-syllable medical words." His study of Latin in high school has come in handy when playing the role as well. "I always wondered what those three years of Latin in high school were going to be about...it's saying it like I know what I'm talking about," he said.
Hall, who has two prosthetic legs, one below the knee and one just above, commented that he thinks having more disabled characters on television would be a more realistic portrayal of society. "To me, it's always much better to paint with a wider palette. And it's more truthful, too," he said.
