Petersen On Ice

William Petersen (Gil Grissom) supports the local boys.
Petersen has thrown out the first pitch for the Chicago Cubs and makes a point of visiting Wrigley Field at least once a year to sing the seventh inning stretch. In addition to loving the local baseball team, the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star is also a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team. On December 23, Petersen dropped the ceremonial puck at the United Center when the team played the Edmonton Oilers.
"I went to my first hockey game when I was 10 -- 1963," Petersen told the Chicago Sun-Times. "Against the Red Wings." His brother had two tickets to a Sunday night game, so they went together. "It was unbelievable," Petersen said. "The game was 4-4, and the Hawks won with 10 seconds left in regulation. Either Pat Stapleton or Pierre Pilote. That's the only thing I can't remember. From the point, a defenseman hit a slap shot with 10 seconds to go, and they won 5-4. You never forget your first game."
Petersen said that he doesn't get to attend as many Blackhawk games as he would like because of the CSI filming schedule. "We're stuck there from August to May," he said. "But I see them when they come out to play the Kings." However, Petersen might be able to go to more games in the near future. "What's exciting is as I try to get more time away from there and more time back here, the Hawks are all of a sudden playing great hockey," he explained. "With the writers' strike, I may be able to come back in January and see them because I don't think we're going to be working."
